AMELIA & THE HOUSEWIVES

AMELIA & THE HOUSEWIVES

The band came together in 2024, and recorded five songs before playing any live shows. John Kennedy played all five and has championed the band he calls, “Brighton’s best kept secret”.

Simon from Fierce Panda offered them their first show in late 2024. The day after the show, Ian from Damaged Goods offered them a single deal for Maybe, which was released as a 7” in 2025.

Two of the bands songs have since been selected for the BBCs Fresh Faves. In 2026 they recorded another batch of songs and played some more shows. A number of small independent labels offered them an album deal, the band decided to go with Giles from INH as they felt they had a shared ethos and they liked his hair.

There’s a rumour Paul McCartney turned up to one of their shows, danced to a song, winked at Tim and left before they went into their cover of Step Inside Love – but the band refuse to either confirm or deny this rumour.

“Brighton’s Best kept secret!”

John Kennedy, Radio X

“A night for remembering why you fell in love with pop music, untrammelled joy, togetherness and tunes… Ten songs, pop perfection.”

Everett True

“Sharp, bright and gloriously economical, finding comedy in emotional wreckage without pretending the wreckage does not hurt.” Loud Women

“Humourful lyrics, jangly guitars, scathing assessments of relationships past and present. There’s tons of gems stashed in this. Like a cake topped with hundreds and thousands.”

Fresh On The Net

“A perfect slice of jangly indie-pop. Juxtaposing honey-sweet sparkling melodies with a dry, relatable lyricism, it flows with hints of uptempo ‘60s pop whilst maintaining a gloriously fresh energy.”

Get In Her Ears

“Like the very best pop it dresses the dark times in shimmering brightness All harmony, upbeat and punchy melody, and ooh-la-la-las the track delivers its lyrical swipe with a smirk. Gloriously fresh yet reassuringly classic indiepop.” Popoptica

“The band has cranked out another bright, fresh and nostalgic sun-kissed summer song, absolutely infectious.”

ABOUT THE ALBUM

“Its a snapshot of us over the last two years,” said Amelia. “We hope the people who find it enjoy it us much as us. We feel like we’ve cheated a bit as its been a bit too easy!“

The band, as ever entertaining, give their takes on the songs.

Lola

Brighton is in the bands DNA, it runs through our songs like a stick of rock. If the Beach Boys are the sounds of West Coast, we are the sound of West Street at 2am.

Steve

In ‘Summer’s Over’ we tried to capture that exact moment summer was over and distil it into a wine, we were aiming for a Chablis but settled for a Blue Nun. The words are inspiried by Alice Miller and is our response to Here Comes The Sun.

Tim

We are not an ambitious band. On Time will Tell we tried to cover the complexity of the universe and cosmic loneliness, I think we got quite close.

Dan

Smile About It’ is a hike over the South Downs with Max Martin & The Amps on the back of Amelia’s Vespa.

Amelia

Spell came to us in a shared dream about Chic and Curtis Mayfield, apart from Fintan, who was dreaming about Andy Gibb again.

You’ll Never Know’ isn’t just an anti-capital rant, it takes shame and envy for a ride on the bumper cars.

Steve

We are not a confessional band, we are more interested in ambiguity and dancing.

Fintan

We are pretty accommodating, but we did insist the LP was no longer than the Ramones or Buddy Holly’s debuts. We also had a rule all the songs were 2 min max, we broke our own rule twice.

Amelia

We got asked if we get sick of being compared to Abba, we asked him if he got sick of being compared to Brad Pitt.

Lola

I did a nightclass in nihilism, when I arrived there were no textbooks, no desks, no walls – we wrote Time Will Tell that evening.

Amelia.

In ‘Punchline’ we wanted to explore the space between love and indifference, and the importance of Little Mix.

Jonny

Top of the Pops started off as a sculpture on the beach but the song explains things so much better. We wanted to write a Biff Bang Pow song, the backwards guitar solo is our tribute to them.

Dan

“Wanted” started out like a Big Star song, but then Jonny went all George Harrison over it. We tried to break the link between cause and effect with this one.
