COMING UP ROSES

Combining guitar-driven alternative rock with catchy melodies, Coming Up Roses are a north-west London quartet inspired by the sounds of post-punk and shoegaze.

Owing to lead vocalist-bassist Emily Sera & guitarist Darius Oon’s lineage, the band takes inspiration from the vibrant sounds of the burgeoning South East Asian indie scene, blending them with the local influences of guitarist Charlie Wilson and drummer Caleb Blake.

Confronting the uncomfortable to find comfort, Coming Up Roses presents multi-culturally informed songs that detail universal themes such as loss, struggles with mental health, and aspirations.

With a sound that is distinctly familiar yet elusive, the band has released 3 EPs so far: ‘Waters’ (2019), ‘Everything Is’ (2021), and ‘Coming Up Roses’ (2024). In 2025, they will release their long-awaited debut album ‘How Did We Fall So Far?’ through indie label INH Records.

More Details:

Coming Up Roses formed in Singapore in 2018, fronted by bassist-singer Emily Sera. Combining guitar-driven alternative rock with catchy melodies, the northwest London-based quartet are inspired by the sounds of post-punk and shoegaze.

Having released 2 well-received EPs, Waters (2019) and Everything Is (2021), founding members Emily and Darius Oon (guitar) decided to move from Singapore to London in 2022 to follow their dreams of pursuing the band as a full time career.

Later that year, they met new members Charlie Wilson (guitar) and Caleb Blake (drums), releasing their eponymous EP Coming Up Roses in 2024. The release was followed by a summer of touring in the UK while Autumn of 2024 saw the band return for a tour in Asia with dates in Taiwan, Japan, Thailand as well as their home-city of Singapore.

Since their inception, the band’s unique blend of alt-rock and indie pop drenched with shoegaze-y textures has earned them accolades the world over, being featured as a Spotify RADAR artist in 2023 and making appearances at festivals such as Ampthill (UK), Canadian Music Week and LUCFest (Taiwan). In addition, their firebrand performances has seen them open for UK band FUR as well as slot in alongside esteemed international acts such as Soccer Mommy and Ichiko Aoba as part of The Alex Blake Charlie Sessions in 2023.

The band had their first pressing of their debut EP ‘Waters’ on vinyl sell out within 24 hours, and since their relocation to the UK have earned the praises of radio DJs including John Kennedy (Radio X) who described their music as a “classic sound”. The name Coming Up Roses is derived from the phrase “Everything’s coming up roses”, hence the title of our second EP.

However, some have suggested the following, which we may agree depending on our mood: The Elliott Smith song The song from Begin Again, the 2013 film starring Keira Knightley and Mark Ruffalo The song by alt rock band Curve However, none of the above musical material was actually considered when we chose the name.
